Folklife 2016 Highlights

May 29, 2016 started out like any other typical day in Seattle. Clouds, drizzle, temps in the 50’s. What’s not to like about that? It’s Folklife weather! We took the stage shortly before noon, and the chilly breeze and drizzle had our attention, but it didn’t hold us back.

Luckily, there was some warmth to be had from the bright overhead lights, and the drizzle vanished. A great crowd showed up and stood for our show, thanks to the wet grass.

We were also happy to present graduating senior, Elise Snoey, with a few tokens of our appreciation for her past involvement with the club. Best wishes Elise!

A truly wonderful time was had by all!

Everett Public Library Concert

Once again, a great time was had by all at the Everett Public Library concert, May 1st. The library provided every chair possible, and eventually we had a standing room only situation- full of enthusiastic concert goers. Highlights of the concert are below. Thank you, Everett Public Library, for your hospitality! Thank you, Calum MacKinnon for your leadership!

Everett Public Library Performance May 1st

Scotland comes to Everett May 1st,  as the Northwest Scottish Fiddlers return for a repeat performance at the main Everett Public Library auditorium, downtown Everett.  Music from Scotlalnd, Nova Scotia, and the Shetland Islands will be featured, on fiddles, guitar, piano and string bass, under the musical direction of Calum MacKinnon, long time Scottish fiddler, from Edmonds. There will something for everyone- including solos, family acts, dancing, and singing. The club has performed to standing room only crowds at Seattle’s Folklife and other venues, and looks forward to again sharing our music with Everett.”

How did we all get on stage?

Vienna_August 2015_World Pipeband Championships Glasgow Scotlan

One might wonder why a piper is featured on the Fiddle Club website… Well, she’s no ordinary piper, and she’s the leader of the club’s youth band!  In August, she competed as part of the Northwest Junior Pipe Band, in the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.

Overall, the band came in 6th, and they were featured on King 5 news- here’s the link so you can see them in action. Vienna will be the young lady in the front row: http://www.king5.com/story/news/local/2015/08/15/nw-junior-pipe-band-places-6th–world-championships/31783447/

WAY TO GO, VIENNA! and congratulations to the Northwest Junior Pipe Band!
